Taming low level animals in Durango is quite simple. First thing you need is to be level 15 or above. You can easily reach level 15 by completing the starting game tutorials.

You also need your Survival skill to be level 15. You can easily level up your survival skill by gathering, building, and crafting things. Survival skill basically goes with your character level so you don't have to worry about it so much.

Then you need to spend skill points to Animal Capture skill level 1. The skill is located in Skills>Survival>Animal Capture> Capture Skill I. Learning this skill allows you to capture Zebraceratops and Macrauchenia.

Zebraceratops are commonly found in level 15 islands. That's why you must go to level 15 islands if you want to capture one.

You have to attack the dinosaur and fight it until it collapse. Then you can cast the Capture Skill to capture it. The Capture skill is the one with web icon. Most likely, animals in Durango collapse when they reach less than 20% of their HP.

Once you successfully captured an animal, it will go in your bag. It looks like a big wooden cage.

Remember that the success rate of capturing animals is not always 100%. You just have to try it again in case you failed to capture an animal.

Some players especially newbies think that this is a bug, but the truth is they are not paying attention if they successfully capture an animal or not.

Before you can train an animal make sure you have Animal Management I Skill. You can learn this skill automatically without spending Skill Points just by leveling your Survival Skill to 15.

Advantages Of Having An Animal Companion


Additional Bag - An animal companion provides huge amount of extra bag space which is very helpful when are traveling and gathering lots of resources.

As you can see highlighted in the picture above, a zebraceratops can carry 50 additional bag space.

Mount - You can ride animals in Durango. You can travel fast depending on the mount that you have.

But be very careful with your mount because once they starve you cannot ride them. So make sure to check their hunger level constantly and feed them.

Battle Pet - An animal companion joins you into battle. They don't do that much damage but sometimes they can tank enemy damage to keep you alive.

You Can Buy Or Sell Animals In The Market


You can train animals without capturing them by buying captured animals in the island markets. This is a smart way of conserving your skill points. Captured animals are really cheap in the market anyways.

If you want to make some profit by capturing animals you can sell them to island markets. But don't expect too much because capturing animals is so easy and most players sells them very cheap.
